Bridges Load Limited in Somerset for Safety

IN the interests of public safety, Somerset Regional Council has load limited two timber bridges in the region.

Neuendorf Road Bridge at Minden has been reduced to 16 tonnes effective immediately and Tetzalffs Lane Bridge at Mt Beppo is load limited to 22 tonnes.

Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said independent engineering inspection reports had highlighted the need for action on both bridges.

“Council undertakes routine inspections of all bridges in our infrastructure network and this new load limit is necessary to ensure the safety of road users,” Cr Lehmann said.

“Council has prioritised the replacement of its timber bridges over the years and we’re proud to say that there are only four timber bridges remaining in the region.

“Council has plans to replace all timber bridges with resilient concrete structures in the near future.”

Council has submitted funding proposals of $1.2 million for a total cost of $2.4 million dollars to the Australian Government’s Bridges Renewal Program for the replacement of both bridges.
