Community boost as Men’s Shed confirmed for Esk

SOMERSET will be home to a new Men’s Shed with council confirming it will lease land to a group from Esk.

The Esk Men’s Shed will be based at a parcel of land off Esk Hampton Road behind Esk Bowls Club.

It will be the third Men’s Shed in the region, joining the Toogoolawah District Men’s Shed in Bellambi Street and the Somerset Community Men’s Shed at Lowood.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann welcomed the move, saying the Men’s Shed would fill an important need in the Esk community.

“Men’s Sheds are places where members can work on projects at their own pace, in their own time,” Cr Lehmann said.

“They focus on men’s health, both mental and physical, and offer an opportunity for men to communicate ‘shoulder to shoulder’.

“These facilities are particularly important in our rural and remote areas, where access to more traditional support services can sometimes be limited.

“Importantly, the Esk Men’s Shed will provide another community outlet for social inclusion, support and mateship.”

The Australian Men’s Shed Association includes more than 985 groups nationally.
