Countdown is on for the Sixteenth Annual Rail Trail Fun Run

THERE is only four weeks to go until the annual Somerset Rail Trail Fun Run is on.

The event, now in its sixteenth year, will start at Lowood’s Clock Park and finish with a free post race festival at Fernvale Sports Park on Sunday, 8 July.

There are three main events, 8km run/walk and 3km run/walk which start at 9am and a 25km bike ride starting at 8am.

The event will be along a section of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail – soon to be the longest rail trail in Australia.

Register before 5pm on Friday, 22 June to take advantage of early bird prices and go into a random prize draw to win a tandem skydive from Skydive Ramblers Parachute Centre at Toogoolawah.

Early bird registrations (across all events) cost $30 for adults (over 17), $10 for individuals aged 16 and under and a family registration (two adults, three children) costs $70.

The fun run, organised by Somerset Regional Council and sponsored by Bendigo Bank - Lowood and Fernvale Community Bank Branch is a popular social event on the fun run calendar.

Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the event was all about having fun and encouraging active and healthy lifestyles.

“Participants for the fun run don’t need to feel compelled to run the event. It’s a chance to just enjoy a day out with their friends, take a leisurely stroll or bike ride, and most of all have fun,” Cr Lehmann said.

“This event is all about the community coming together and enjoying a day out in the great outdoors.”

Council is donating $2 from each race entry to the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Association.
