Minden Lagoon Wildlife Safer Thanks to Upgrade

Somerset Regional Council has completed vegetation management work at Minden Lagoon ahead of the next cattle egret breeding season.

“Cattle egrets periodically use Minden Lagoon and Council heard community members voice their concerns about bird deaths from traffic collisions earlier this year,” said Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann.

“In response, we have implemented a strategy of reducing vegetation on the Lowood Minden Road side of Minden Lagoon and planting trees on the other side of the lagoon to encourage nesting birds away from the road over time.”

“We have also installed road signage so that motorists are more aware of wildlife in the area,” he said.
