Somerset Council Meeting This Week 

Somerset Regional Council will hold its final meeting for the year on Thursday, 20 December at Esk.

The meeting starts at 9am in the Simeon Lord Room at the Esk Library in Heap Street.

The first meeting for 2019 will be held on Wednesday, 23 January.

Somerset School Holiday Program On Now

Somerset Regional Council has again supported the organisation of an action-packed school holiday program to help parents keep their children entertained this summer.

The free school holiday program is on now and runs until Australia Day on Saturday, 26 January 2019.

There will be various activities on offer including craft classes, water sports including dive in movies, sports and more.

Council is delivering the initiative to help promote active and healthy lifestyles across Somerset in conjunction with various other community organisations in Somerset.

Get Free Weather Alerts in Somerset

Somerset Regional Council offers residents the opportunity to receive free alerts for severe weather direct to your phone or email.

Council has partnered with the Early Warning Network (EWN) to deliver an alert service to residents living in Somerset.

The service is free to all Somerset residents through a Council initiative.

A key element of EWNs service is the Geographic Notification and Information System (GNIS) which enables true location based services so residents receive notifications based on their registered or physical location at the time.

Esk Landfill Upgrades

Somerset Regional Council will upgrade internal roads, fencing, CCTV and security at the Esk landfill prior to the introduction of the state waste levy on 1 July 2019.

A weighbridge will also be installed at the landfill to comply with legislation behind the waste levy.

The $300,000 upgrades will be part-funded by an 80% grant from the Queensland Government.

Temporary Road Closure

Pine Mountain Road at Borallon between Hills Road and Borallon Station Road at Sandy Creek will be closed to through traffic from Monday, 7 January 2019 until late May 2019, weather permitting.

The road will be closed to replace a culvert with a new concrete bridge at Sandy Creek. Alternate access for local residents and emergency services is available.

Christmas Spirit Shining Bright in Somerset

Somerset residents can enjoy various Christmas light displays across the region with Council’s helpful Christmas Lights Trail list.

The list has been created from entrants into Somerset Regional Council’s second annual Somerset Christmas Lights Competition.

Council received 39 entries into the competition, across nine categories.

Participants have been encouraged to have their lights on nightly (weather permitting) until 10pm until 26 December 2018.

Somerset Regional Council Christmas Closures

Somerset Regional Council facilities will close over the festive season.

The following Somerset Regional Council facilities will be closed from

Tuesday, 25 December 2018 and will reopen Wednesday, 2 January 2019 as per standard trading hours: Esk Administration Centre, Esk Library, Kilcoy Customer Service Centre and Library, Lowood Customer Service Centre and Library and Toogoolawah Library.

All Council related emergencies during the shutdown period can be reported through Council’s after hours call centre on 5424 4000.

Somerset Visitor Information Centres Closures

Somerset Regional Council’s four visitor information centres will be closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day.

The Kilcoy, Fernvale, Esk and Toogoolawah information centres will remain open all other days over the festive season.

The information centres will operate from 9am until 2pm on weekdays, weekends and public holidays during the festive season from Monday, 24 December 2018 to 1 January 2018.  

New Art Exhibition on at Toogoolawah Gallery

A new photographic art exhibit focusing on nine Somerset residents who have contributed to the fabric of the Somerset community and the region’s diverse industries is on now at the Somerset Regional Art Gallery – The Condensery in Toogoolawah.

The exhibit, Picturing Innovation, features images of the residents taken by award-winning press photographer Rob Maccoll and also features a collection of his private images taken of flood, famine, war and adversity.

The gallery at 29 Factory Road, Toogoolawah is open from 9am to 5pm Wednesday to Friday and from 10am to 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.

From Monday, 24 December the gallery will be open 9am to 2pm Monday to Sunday and closed Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Normal trading hours will resume on Wednesday, 2 January 2019.  

The Picturing Innovation exhibit will be on until Sunday, 3 February 2019.
