Somerset Regional Council Weekly Highlights - 10 April 2017
New Jobs Power Kilcoy Population Growth
Kilcoy has emerged as a regional growth centre with local population growing by 1.8% compared with 1% growth for the rest of regional Queensland.
The growth was revealed in the latest Regional Population Growth report by the Australian Bureau of Statistics of 30 March 2017.
Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said Kilcoy Pastoral Company's plant has been rapidly expanding to become one of Australia's largest beef processors with more than 1,000 people expected to be employed there in the next 12 to 18 months.
"This is a big deal for our area and Council is assisting industry by making sure our transport network is productive with as few bridge load limits and other restrictions as possible," he said.
"We have recently seen growth in official land values in Kilcoy and Fernvale of 12% and 9% respectively and this is also good news for our area.”
Other Somerset areas experienced population growth, including Lowood at 1.1% and Esk with 1%. The full report is available at abs.gov.au
Somerset adopts PayPal
Somerset Regional Council has increased its payment options to include PayPal.
Mayor Graeme Lehmann said that PayPal is now available through the Council’s online Postbillpay payment system and would provide convenient payment option for property owners, including those based overseas.
