Somerset Regional Council Weekly Highlights - 18 December 2017

School Holiday Program on In Somerset

Somerset residents can enjoy an action packed school holiday program this Summer.

Somerset Regional Council has partnered with various organisations to deliver a free school holiday program that will run until Friday, 26 January 2018.

Various activities are on offer including family fun days, Christmas crafts and decorations, pool movie nights and more.

Last Council Meeting for 2017

Somerset Regional Council will hold its next meeting and final meeting for 2017 on Thursday, 21 December at Esk.

The meeting starts at 9am in the Simeon Lord Room at the Esk Library in Heap Street.

Meetings are open to the public. Agendas are available from www.somerset.qld.gov.au.

Somerset residents can enjoy various Christmas Light displays across the region with Council’s helpful Christmas Lights Trail list.

The list has been created from entrants into Somerset Regional Council’s inaugural

Christmas Lights Competition.

Council received 43 entries into the competition, across seven categories.

Participants have been encouraged to have their lights on nightly (weather permitting) until 1 January 2018.

Somerset Regional Council Christmas Closures

Somerset Regional Council facilities will close over the festive season.

The following Somerset Regional Council facilities will be closed from

Monday, 25 December 2017 and will reopen Tuesday, 2 January 2018.

Esk Administration Centre, Esk Library, Kilcoy Customer Service Centre and Library,

Lowood Customer Service Centre and Library and Toogoolawah Library.

Somerset Council’s refuse facilities will operate on reduced hours from Monday, 18 December 2017.

All facilities will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

All Council related emergencies during the shutdown period can be reported through Council’s after hours call centre on 5424 4000.

Somerset Visitor Information Centres Closures

Somerset Regional Council’s three visitor information centres will be closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day.

The Kilcoy, Fernvale and Esk information centres will remain open all other days over the festive season.

The information centres will operate from 9am until 2pm on weekdays, weekends and public holidays during the festive season between 23 December 2017 to 1 January 2018.  

Australia Day Celebrations in Somerset

Somerset Regional Council will recognise its outstanding citizens at an Australia Day Awards ceremony on Friday, 26 January 2018.

Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony which will start at 9am at the Somerset Civic Centre in Esk.

Council will recognise all residents nominated for each of the award categories as well as announce the winners including Citizen of the Year.

Bookings are not required and doors will open at 8am. 

Two Day Art Workshop at Toogoolawah

A two day art workshop with artist Michael Pospischil will be held at the Somerset Regional Art Gallery – The Condensery in Toogoolawah in January.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, 20 January and Sunday, 21 January from 10am to 4pm.

The two day, Learn How Not to Draw, workshop will help participants develop their intellectual understanding and muscular control of the medium.

The workshop is limited to 12 people, will cost $50 per day and bookings are essential.

The workshop is being held in conjunction with the exhibit, Tainted Landscapes, on display at the gallery until February.
