Somerset Regional Council Weekly Highlights - 9 July 2018

Somerset Council Meeting This Week  

Somerset Regional Council will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, 11 July at Esk.

The meeting starts at 9am in the Simeon Lord Room at the Esk Library in Heap Street.

Have Your Say on Waste Management

Council is inviting Somerset residents to have their say on waste management within the region.

Somerset Regional Council has released a draft version of its Waste Reduction and Recycling Plan 2018-2020 for community feedback.

Residents have from now until 5pm on 31 July to provide comment.

Copies of the plan are available here on Council’s website, or at Council’s offices at Esk, Lowood and Kilcoy.

Feedback on the draft plan can be submitted by email to mail@somerset.qld.gov.au or by post to Somerset Regional Council, PO Box 117, Esk, QLD 4312.

 

Somerset Council Says Farewell to Long Serving Staff

Somerset Regional Council has said farewell to four long serving staff members.

Brad Sully, director of Planning and Development, has retired after 14 years’ service with Council. Chris Payne, Director of Corporate and Community Services, has moved on after 10 years with Council. Robert Farley, Safety Advisor with Council, has retired after 26 years with Council and Nelson Handyside, Senior Foreman, has moved on after almost three decades with Council.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann thanked each of the staff members for their long service to Council.

Long serving Council employees, Brad Sully, Rob Farley, Chris Payne and Nelson Handyside have all moved on to greener pastures.

 

Somerset Artists Encouraged to Apply for Gallery Space

Somerset based artists are being encouraged to apply to exhibit at the popular Somerset Regional Art Gallery – The Condensery in Toogoolawah.

The community exhibitions program provides an opportunity for Somerset based artists to apply to display their new works in a professional venue, owned and managed by Somerset Regional Council, that attracts hundreds of visitors each month. 

To be eligible to apply artists must be a Somerset resident. All art forms will be considered.

Somerset residents are encouraged to fill out a gallery exhibition form available from Council’s website, www.somerset.qld.gov.au/condensery

Applications for Somerset artists close at 5pm on Monday, 27 August 2018.

Entries Now Open for Somerset Garden Competition

Green thumbs in Somerset are being encouraged to enter the second annual Somerset Garden Competition.

Somerset Regional Council has again partnered with Searles, the leading market innovator in the home garden industry, to deliver the garden competition.

The competition is about encouraging all Somerset garden enthusiasts to enter their gardens into an open garden display and associated competition from now until Friday, 10 August 2018.

There are three major competition categories; Best Rural Garden, Best Urban Garden and Best Business/Community Group and the winners of each category will receive a $500 cash prize and a signature prize pack from Searles valued at $100.

All entrants receive a Searles Garden Product Prize Pack.

Desexing Promotion Continues in Somerset  

Somerset Regional Council is, for the fifth consecutive year, offering residents an incentive to desex their dog in an effort to encourage responsible pet ownership.

Council will pay the 2018/2019 registration fees for all dogs desexed during the promotion, provided a copy of the desexing certificate is given to Council.

The Dog Desexing Promotion is open to all Somerset residents who desex their dog or dogs during the promotional period of 1 June 2018 until 1 August 2018.

A copy of the vet certificate will need to be provided to Council along with a signed application form, available online and at Council’s offices, on or before 1 August 2018.
