E-Readers
Somerset Regional Library service has eight Kindle e-readers available for loan to library members.
An e-reader is a portable electronic device, specially designed for reading electronic books (e Books). They are light and easy to carry and use a special e-ink screen – meant to mimic paper and are non-reflective to reduce glare from sunlight.
The library’s e-readers come preloaded with eBooks and each e-reader is genre-based and contains both contemporary/new releases and also some older ‘classic’ titles.
For those of you considering the purchase of an e-book reader, this is a great opportunity to try out this popular new electronic medium if you’re not sure whether you would like the eBook reading experience. Test drive ours for free!
How long can I borrow an eBook reader?
You can borrow the eBook readers for three weeks. You may check the e-reader out again as long as there are no reserves on the device.
Can I purchase and/ or download content to the eBook reader?
We ask that you do not purchase and/ or download additional titles on your own.
Will it be difficult to learn how to use the e-book readers?
No, all our eBook readers have simple-to-use touch screen interface and navigation buttons. Library staff can give you some basic instructions if you are not familiar with this type of electronic device. If you want to know more you can book into one of our regular eBook and tablet help sessions.
How do I return the eBook reader?
The eBook reader must be returned inside the library directly to a library staff member. The device may not be returned in the outdoor book return boxes.
Please ensure that you return all parts of the e-reader, including the power cable and protective case (if included). Any missing items may result in charges.
Keep your e-reader safe from water or being dropped. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures like leaving it in your car in the summer heat.
Library e-reader policies:
• Our e-readers are not for accessing your own eBooks
• Users are not to add, copy or delete any of the eBook content on these e-readers
• A library member may only loan one (1) e-reader at a time.
