Somerset Regional Council has paid the first half instalments of this years rural fire levies
Somerset Regional Council has paid the first half instalments of this years rural fire levies to the Esk Group Rural Fire Brigade and three Kilcoy area brigades totalling more than $78,000.
Mayor, Cr Graeme Lehmann said, "Council is pleased to make these payments to the Esk Group Rural Fire Brigade who in turn help fund individual rural fire brigades across the former Esk Shire and to the Hazeldean, Villeneuve and Mt Kilcoy/ Sandy Creek brigades."
"The fire season has already commenced and there is a huge amount of bushfire fuel throughout our region. Everyone should please get behind our volunteer rural fire brigades. Do not become complacent about fire risk."
"Please take all necessary precautions around your properties to help reduce the risk not just to your own property but your neighbours as well."
"This financial year in addition to the $156,000 rural fire funds, Council will make available $17,000 to local brigades in fire hydrant maintenance contracts and Council rate notices will include more than $260,000 in State Government Fire Levies to be passed on to the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service," he said.
