Somerset Council briefs 8th July 2009
Highlights from the Somerset Regional Council meeting held on 8 July 2009 included:
New Kilcoy industry zone
Council has issued a preliminary approval for a new 53 hectare industry zone east of Kilcoy to help capture businesses looking to relocate to the region.
Key conditions of the approval are for the developer to commission a flood investigation for the area and to restrict development to areas above Q100 flood prone areas.
Council puts $70,000 into Lowood SES headquarters
Council will invest up to $70,000 in a new Lowood SES headquarters on Council freehold land at Lowood industrial estate.
The State government has offered $82,000 on top of Council's funds towards the new Lowood SES facility which will serve as a base for southern Somerset SES volunteers whenever storms, floods and other emergencies strike the region.
Council seeks show holiday for 2010
Council will apply to the State government for permission to hold a public holiday in August 2010 on the Monday before People's Day at the Brisbane Exhibition.
No more printed meeting minutes
Council will cease printing minutes for its meetings with procedures now in place for wider distribution of electronic copies of minutes and agendas as part of the Council's commitment to the environment.
