Youth School Holiday program
Youth School Holiday program
After the enormous success of Somerset Regional Council's school holiday program for primary students over the last several years, demand has grown for a secondary school version. So here it is!!
On Monday 29 June, Wednesday 1 July and Friday 3 July 2009 Somerset Regional Council will be hosting a sport development program featuring basketball (29/6), Futsal (1/7) and netball (3/7)
Where: Lowood High School hall, Prospect Street, Lowood
Ages: 13 - 17 (must be attending secondary school)
Times: 9:30am - 12:30pm
First aid: Qualified first aid personnel will be present at all times
You need: Comfortable sporting attire, water bottle, morning tea and a positive attitude
Basketball
Basketball Queensland will be providing qualified development staff to run participants through a series of skill sessions during the first two hours of the clinic. The final hour will involve the formation of teams for the purpose of a mini round robin.
Futsal
This 5-a-side, indoor version of soccer (which has actually been around since 1930!) has become extremely popular in Australia in recent years - now it's your turn to try it out. Again facilitated by experienced coaches, this 3 hour block will be comprised of a skill clinic followed by some friendly match play.
Netball
Participants in this activity will be fortunate enough to be coached by two present Queensland Firebirds players, Tamsin Greenway and Janelle Lawson, both of whom are also accredited netball coaches. After teaching the basic skills and rules of the game Tamsin and Janelle will organise some games. Guys and girls welcome.
To avoid disappointment early registration is strongly recommended as places are strictly limited to a maximum of 40. For more information contact Scott Aurisch on 5424 4000 or email saurisch@somerset.qld.gov.au
