Lakes Wivenhoe and Somerset are a recreational playground with large expanses of water with breathtaking scenery creating a perfect setting to enjoy a fun filled day of water based activities or a relaxing picnic.
Lake Wivenhoe is over twice the size of Sydney Harbour and lends itself to camping, non – motorised crafts, fishing, bushwalking, and great picnic spots. Campers can take advantage of the Captain Logan and Lumley Hill Areas, which provide campsites, toilets, showers and barbeques. Cormorant Bay provides large picnic and playground facilities for quiet family BBQ’s and group gatherings. Across the dam wall, visitors can learn about the dams and water saving tips at the Wivenhoe Visitor Centre.
Lake Somerset attracts many skiing enthusiasts for weekend getaways as it allows motorised vessels. Impressive camping areas are available at Somerset Park and Lake Somerset Holiday Park and the Spit offers great picnic and BBQ facilities. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful surrounds and wildlife that inhabit this untapped destination and stay at a country retreat.
Lakes Wivenhoe and Somerset are a true fisherman’s paradise with anglers trying their hand at catching the introduced varieties of fish being - Golden Perch, Silver Perch, Mary River Cod, Australian Bass and Saratoga but remember a fishing permit is required.
