Australia Day 2021
As we reflect on the highs and lows of 2020, let’s celebrate the achievements and contributions of our Somerset residents through the annual Australia Day Awards program. The awards provide people with the opportunity to recognise someone who makes them proud.
How to nominate
It is easy to submit a nomination in just three simple steps:

- Complete the registration page, your nomination submission and attach any supporting documents.
You can nominate someone in your own family, maybe a friend, work colleague, coach or someone you’ve never met but who you admire and find inspiring. Either way, your nomination could mean the world to them.

Award Categories and Eligibility
Arts and Cultural Award of the Year
Recognition of performers, musicians, actors, directors and artists (individuals and groups), celebrating their creative achievements for the preceding year, as well as those you have worked to develop cultural activities and projects within Somerset.
Sports Award of the Year
Recognition of coaches, administrators and officials who have provided their time in contributing to the Somerset sports community or an athlete or team who has achieved exceptional results in sporting endeavours.
Citizen of the Year Award
Persons who have provided their time in contributing to the community during the current year, or have given outstanding service to the community over several years.
Young Citizen of the Year Award
Young persons who have provided their time in contributing to the community during the current year or have given outstanding service to the community over several years.
Age: 16 to 30
Community Group of the Year
Recognises the significant contribution not-for-profit community groups, arts and cultural groups, sporting groups and service clubs make in organising events, providing companionship, raising funds and volunteering, or who have provided outstanding service to the community.
Conditions of Entry
- Nominations can only be submitted online via the official awards portal
- Supporting evidence can be uploaded to the nomination portal
- Incomplete nomination forms will not be considered
- A candidate may be nominated for more than one award category however a separate submission must be made for each category.
- An individual can only receive one award in the same year
- The nominee must be a resident of the Somerset Regional Council area
- Nominations must be received by 5pm Monday, 30 November 2020
The judging panel will make its decision based on the criteria for each award. Judges reserve the right to consider any nomination for any award category. The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence about their decisions will be entered into. The number of nominations received per nominee bears no weight in their selection. The judges reserve the right to not allocate an award in any of the award categories if, in their opinions, the nominations are of insufficient merit.
You will have the option to upload up to four supporting documents for your nominations.

I’ve submitted my nomination, what next?
Nominations will be collated and reviewed by a panel of judges of at least three people from our region in early December 2020.
Nominees will receive a letter advising them of their nomination and inviting them to the awards ceremony to be held on Australia Day, 26 January 2021 at Somerset Civic Centre.
Nominators will also receive an invitation to the awards ceremony (subject to venue capacity restrictions and COVID19 Safe Event Requirements).
All nominees will receive a certificate of acknowledgement.
The award recipients will receive a medallion and a framed certificate.
