Somerset footballer kicks goal with grant

A Glamorgan Vale footballer has been awarded a Community Assistance Grant in the latest round of funding from Somerset Regional Council.

Georgia Spicer will represent Brisbane at next month’s Football Queensland Community Cup in Cairns.

Georgia plays club football for the Ipswich City Bulls and Western Ranges.

Council employee recognised for service

Somerset Regional Council has recognised the service of long-term employee Susan Pitkin.

Mrs Pitkin was honoured for 15 years with council, beginning as executive personal assistant to the mayor and chief executive officer at the former Esk Shire Council in June 2004.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann this week congratulated Mrs Pitkin at a presentation in Esk.

Council employee Susan Pitkin was recognised for her service to Somerset by Mayor Graeme Lehmann.

 

Somerset to be represented in Roma

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann and Deputy Mayor Dan Hall will represent the region at the Bush Councils Convention in Roma this August.

The biennial convention highlights the unique challenges and opportunities facing local governments in rural and remote areas.

Councillor Lehmann said the event would be held under the theme Turning Adversity into Adventure.

“The convention is a chance to catch up with colleagues from across Queensland, discussing common issues like drought, population growth, essential services and infrastructure,” Cr Lehmann said.

“Our regions are vital to the ongoing success and prosperity of our state, and we look forward to representing the Somerset community.”

 

Council confirms August show holiday

A public holiday will be observed in Somerset on Monday, 10 August next year, Somerset Regional Council confirmed this week.

The holiday in recognition of the Royal Queensland Show will precede People’s Day.

This year’s public holiday will be observed on Monday, 12 August.

 

Somerset Regional Council held its meeting in the Simeon Lord Room at the Esk Library on Wednesday, 26 June at 9am.
