SENIORS can learn more about social media, cyber safety and online banking at free workshops presented by Somerset Regional Council.

Supported by Telstra, the State Library of Queensland and the State Government, Tech Savvy Seniors is being offered at library branches in Esk, Lowood, Kilcoy and Toogoolawah.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the workshops were a way for like-minded people to learn more about technology.

“Some of the topics covered include how to upload photos to Facebook, the basics of internet safety, why online banking is secure and how you can pay your bills online,” Cr Lehmann said.

“The workshops are designed to get more Somerset residents online while increasing the digital literacy of some of our less tech savvy seniors, empowering people to feel more confident and comfortable using the internet.

“They are offered in a group setting or one on one, and generally take one to two hours to complete.”
