GET your running or riding shoes on – it’s not too late to register for an iconic event on the Somerset calendar.

The Somerset Rail Trail Fun Run or Ride will be held this Sunday, 14 July, starting at Clock Park in Lowood and finishing with a post-race festival at Fernvale Sports Park on Brouff Road.

Enjoy a section of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail – Australia’s longest recreational rail trail – by taking part in the 3km or 8km run/walk events or a 25km ride to Wanora and back to the festival.

Registrations for the fun run or ride, presented by Somerset Regional Council and sponsored by Bendigo Bank, are open online at railtrailfunrun.com.au.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said more than 750 people had already registered for the event.

“This year’s post-race festival will feature fun for the whole family – hippo chow down, human foosball and rock climbing among others – all free,” Cr Lehmann said.

“There will also be food and community stalls, with plenty of seating to rest your tired legs, and we will reward participants with a specially-minted, rail trail-themed medallion to commemorate their achievements.”
