A FESTIVAL of fishing, fireworks and free family fun will return to Lake Wivenhoe later this month.
The Reel Wivenhoe Classic, a non-professional catch, photograph and release fishing competition, will be held at Captain Logan Campground on 17 and 18 August.
Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said fish wouldn’t be the only thing on the line, with more than $20,000 in prizes up for grabs.
“Somerset Regional Council has outlaid $40,000 to contract Andrew Mitchell and the team from Fishing Freshwater to manage the Reel Wivenhoe Classic, and we know they will deliver another great event,” Cr Lehmann said.
“The Reel Wivenhoe Classic will be open to the public and will include live music on Friday, 16 August and a free family festival on Saturday, 17 August.
“The major prize draw of a boat, motor and trailer package is open to competitors and the general public, and tickets will be available for purchase on site from 7am on the Saturday.
“A fireworks finale will bring the festival to a close at 8pm, lighting Lake Wivenhoe like never before.”
