SOMERSET is already home to Australia’s longest recreational rail trail, and now the nation’s biggest sale trail is coming to town.

Local households, schools and community groups will join more than 400,000 people across the country on 19 and 20 October for the ninth annual Garage Sale Trail.

The multi award-winning sustainability event is being supported by more than 140 Australian councils, and online registrations open on Saturday, 10 August.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the weekend was all about encouraging reuse, recycling and reduced waste.

“The sale trail concept is a fun and social way for council to educate the community about the impact we can all make when we buy secondhand,” Cr Lehmann said.

“It’s the perfect time for a spring clean, and we’re encouraging everyone in Somerset to get behind the event.

“We’re in the unique position of having Australia’s biggest Garage Sale Trail alongside the 161km-long Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, giving people the option of riding from sale to sale.”

The first 1,250 Garage Sale Trail sellers who register before 10 September will receive a free promo pack with posters, price tags and more.
