FOUR hundred fish, fireworks and a family festival headlined the Reel Wivenhoe Classic at Captain Logan Campground on the weekend.

The non-professional catch, photograph and release fishing competition was held on Saturday and Sunday, attracting 86 teams and 300 day visitors.

Team Schwerin won the Top Six Fish category with a combined length of 2,980mm, while also claiming Most Fish (27) for the weekend.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the event included participants from across Brisbane and the Gold and Sunshine coasts.

“Teams landed a total of 400 fish for the two days, everything from bass to catfish,” Cr Lehmann said.

“I didn’t see anyone come back from the water disappointed, and the warm weekend weather provided the perfect backdrop to promote Wivenhoe.

“Saturday’s fireworks finale was a spectacular way to light the lake and showcase everything Somerset has to offer in terms of outdoor adventure experiences for the whole family.”
