New Australian citizens welcomed at Somerset ceremony

SOMERSET Regional Council this week welcomed 13 new Australian citizens at a ceremony in Esk.

The new citizens bring with them their cultural heritage from countries including the Philippines, Germany, Thailand, Ecuador and China.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Graeme Lehmann said Somerset continued to be a diverse, inclusive and accepting community.

“On behalf of Somerset Regional Council, I welcome each of you and your families to our community and thank you for making a valuable contribution to the region,” Cr Lehmann said.

“It is a huge step becoming an Australian citizen, and I congratulate each of you for pledging your loyalty to Australia and its people.”
