Somerset Regional Council will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, 23 October at Esk.

The meeting will start at 9am in the Simeon Lord Room at the Esk Library in Heap Street.

Digital innovation workshop comes to Kilcoy

A two-day workshop on Embracing Digital Innovation in the Agricultural Sector will be held in Kilcoy on 20 and 21 November.

Supported by Somerset Regional Council, the free workshop is designed for farmers and workers in the agricultural sector who want to increase efficiency and productivity.

It will cover topics like connectivity, remote sensing, process automation, drones, data management, mapping, 3D printing and virtual reality.

The workshop will be held at the Kilcoy Visitor Information Centre, 41 Hope Street.

Sports centre expected to reopen in December

The new-look Fernvale Indoor Sports Centre is expected to reopen in December.

The Banks Creek Road facility will feature a 24-hour gym along with a new gymnastics area.

PCYC Queensland will manage the centre for at least the next five years as part of a new contract awarded by Somerset Regional Council.

PCYC Ipswich is offering Fernvale members access to its Eastern Heights gym for $10.71 a week, or $12.51 a week for gym and fitness classes.


Nominate for Somerset Australia Day Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2020 Somerset Australia Day Awards.

Categories cover Arts and Cultural, Sports, Event, Community Group, Young Citizen and Citizen of the Year.

The downloadable form is available at the Somerset Regional Council website, and nominations close on Friday, 29 November.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony at Somerset Civic Centre on Sunday, 26 January next year.

Garage sales in Somerset this weekend

The Somerset community has backed Australia’s biggest sustainability event with more than 50 garage sales to be held in the region this weekend.

The ninth annual Garage Sale Trail will be held this Saturday and Sunday, encouraging reuse, recycling and reduced waste.
