STATE Emergency Service (SES) groups across the Somerset Regional Council area are calling for more members as storm season approaches.

The groups in Esk, Kilcoy, Lowood and Toogoolawah contribute to the community during disasters and emergencies – locally, state-wide and nationally.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said volunteers were provided with training, protective clothing and equipment based on their role within a group.

“Members help the Somerset region across a range of functions, and their primary purpose is to assist the most vulnerable in times of need,” Cr Lehmann said.

"Our local volunteers do a great job, and with summer on the way we’re once again expecting a busy few months where more members – community-minded people over the age of 18 – can really make a big difference.”

Somerset SES groups are at:

• Esk: 22 Heap Street, meeting each Wednesday at 7pm

• Kilcoy: 67 Taylor Street, meeting each Tuesday at 7pm

• Lowood: 17 Lindemans Road, meeting each Wednesday at 7pm

• Toogoolawah: 49 Abbotsford Street, meeting each Wednesday at 7pm
