JIMNA residents will return home this evening following bushfires across the township.

Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said residents were given the green light by emergency services at a 4pm briefing at Kilcoy Memorial Hall.

“Conditions have improved, and emergency services continue to operate in the area, managing low-level fires,” Cr Lehmann said.

“At this stage residents will start to return home at 5pm.

“People with respiratory problems should consider alternative arrangements due to the amount of smoke in the air.

“Importantly, no damage was reported to any properties and residents will now be able to return home safely.

“I thank the Jimna community for their cooperation during the past 24 hours, and acknowledge the great work of our firefighters, police, SES and council staff.

“Queensland Fire and Emergency Services will remain on the ground in Jimna to monitor conditions over coming days.”
