COUNCILLOR Helen Brieschke was today elected as Somerset Regional Council’s Deputy Mayor during the first official meeting of the new term.

Cr Brieschke was first elected as a councillor for the region in 2012 and worked closely with previous Deputy Mayor Dan Hall who retired from Council last month.

Cr Brieschke said it was a privilege to be unanimously voted in as Deputy Mayor.

“I feel very honoured and grateful to have been afforded this opportunity,” Cr Brieschke said.

“I am looking forward to the new responsibilities that come with being Deputy Mayor and will continue to represent the best interests of our community to the best of my ability.”

Cr Brieschke has strong ties to the region having first moved to Somerset in 1976.

Since then she has been being actively involved in the local community through various paid employment, volunteering positions and with her own business.

“Somerset is a great place to live and work and I’m so grateful to have raised my family in this beautiful part of the world and now, working to represent the interests of the wider community,” she said.

“I am passionate about Somerset and am committed to working with my fellow councillors to do the best for our residents.”

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann congratulated Cr Brieschke on her appointment.

“It is fantastic to have Cr Brieschke voted in as deputy and I look forward to working with her closely and for her ongoing support,” Cr Lehmann said.

“We are one team working together for the betterment of Somerset residents and I’m confident we will achieve great things over the next four years.”
