AN inaugural business networking event, hosted by Somerset Regional Council, at Esk last week was a huge success, putting the spotlight on small business and rural industries.

The free event was an opportunity for Somerset business owners to connect with Council and develop stronger relationships and partnerships with like-minded professionals.

Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said the event was the first of three business events to be held this year.

“Council recognises and values the importance of small business and industries within the region and we want to be able to support and encourage these businesses to grow and network,” Cr Lehmann said.

“Earlier this year, Somerset was one of the first Councils to sign-up to the Small Business Friendly Charter, which shows how much we truly value businesses in our region and we were fortunate to welcome the Small Business Commissioner to the breakfast as well.

“By signing the Charter with the Commissioner, Council has committed to continue to strive for excellence.

“We are so lucky in Somerset to have many businesses, big and small achieving great things and contributing to our local economy, and for that I am so grateful.”

Denis Wagner, chairman of Wagners Corporation, was guest speaker at the event and spoke about diversification and growth.

“We were very fortunate to have Denis come on board as guest speaker and Brisbane Valley Farm Direct catered the event which really set the standard for our remaining two events to be held this year,” Cr Lehmann said.

More than 80 people attended the first event, with a second business event scheduled to occur in September and another in November.

The free event was open to all Somerset business owners and operators.
