The wait is over! The winners of the 2021 Somerset Garden Competition can now be announced.
Somerset Regional Council organised the competition with support from Kilcoy- based home garden innovator, Searles Garden Products, who sponsored the competition and associated open gardens program.
Council received 14 entries in the competition, now in its fifth year.
“It’s great to see the pride the entrants have in their gardens and their community,” Cr Lehmann said.
“I hope our residents consider visiting the open gardens to see what can be done and think about entering the competition themselves next year.”

The 2021 Somerset Garden Competition winners are:
Best Rural Garden: Fay Craddock, Biarra
Best Urban Garden: Debbie Mulder, Vernor
Best Business or Community Group Garden: Lowood Section – Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (Peter Bevan), Lowood

Runner Up prizes were awarded to:
Runner Up Rural Garden: Vivienne Hay, Mount Hallen
Runner Up Best Urban Garden: Allan Roberton, Lowood
Runner Up Best Business or Community Group Garden: Tarampa Lodge,Tarampa

Additional Categories were awarded to:
Water Wise Garden: Debbie Mulder, Vernor
Native Garden: Lowood Section – Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (Peter Bevan), Lowood
Edible Garden:  Roman Spur and Family, Fernvale

Competition judges Somerset Councillors Sean Choat and Kylee Isidro and Lockyer Valley Regional Council Councillor Janice Holstein had a tough job choosing winners.  The judges commended the efforts of all entrants and congratulated the winners, who in some instances were separated by just half a point.
As an added bonus, all entrants received a Searles Garden Product Prize Pack.
All 14 gardens entered into the competition will be open to the public between 9am and 2pm on Saturday 25 September and Sunday 26 September.
