Project Summary

As part of Somerset Regional Council’s Lowood Futures Strategy Master Plan, the Main Street entry to the Central Carpark in Lowood will undergo construction from 20 April 2026. The entry and exit to the Central Carpark on Main Street, also known as the Jean Bray Place entrance, creates congestion at the intersection of Main Street and Walters Street. The safest option for all vehicles is to remove this entry, leaving Railway Street as the only entry or exit.

Construction works will include kerb and channel, removal of driveway crossover, footpath reinstatement, top soil and turfing.

Alternate parking

Council has constructed a new carpark on Station Street, which is now open to the public. Council also has plans for another carpark on Railway Street and additional car parking options to replace the Central Carpark in the future.

Impacts to community

Access to Central Carpark will be permanently closed at the entry and exit on Main Street, with Railway Street access to remain. Most of the car parking in the Central Carpark will still be available during construction.

Council and its contractor, A&M Civil, will attempt to minimise impacts caused by construction works. If you wish to raise concerns during construction, contact Somerset Regional Council on 5424 4000.

Start date

Work will start Monday, 20 April 2026 and is expected to be completed by mid-May 2026, weather permitting.
