SOMERSET residents are invited to dip their toes in the new and improved Toogoolawah Swimming Pool, following the completion of major upgrades just in time for Christmas.

Somerset Regional Council officially re-opened the upgraded facility on Wednesday, 17 December with Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt and Attorney-General and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington.

The Toogoolawah Swimming Pool and Community Gym received two major upgrades, co-funded by the Queensland Government through the South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program and the Minor Infrastructure and Inclusive Facilities Fund.

Cr Wendt said the swimming pool had received numerous upgrades, making it more accessible to the wider Somerset community.

“The pool has been upgraded from six lanes to become an eight-lane, 25 metre pool with a ramp,” Cr Wendt said.

“This transformation will better service the central Somerset community with improved functionality, greater accessibility for people living with a disability and larger capacity for more users.

“Other new features include ramp and stairway access to the gym, shade infrastructure, an equipment room and driveway.”

Cr Wendt said the pool upgrades were necessary to accommodate the growing needs of the central Somerset community.

“The Toogoolawah Swimming Pool and Community Gym broke its annual record with nearly 29,000 attending the facility in the 2024-2025 pool season,” Cr Wendt said.

“With more people choosing to call Somerset home it’s essential for us as a Council to be able to provide the facilities our communities need.”

The facility is part of the Toogoolawah Swimming Pool and Community Gym, conveniently situated at the southern end of Toogoolawah near the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail and The Condensery – Somerset Regional Art Gallery.

Cr Wendt said Council had also completed works for the Toogoolawah Community Gym Extension project.

“The gym extension has added almost 100 sqm of floor space to the facility, further increasing access to health and fitness equipment,” Cr Wendt said.

“We’re very grateful to deliver both the pool and gym upgrades with support from the Queensland Government.”

Somerset Regional Council received $2.64 million from the Queensland Government through the South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program towards the Toogoolawah Swimming Pool Upgrade.

Council matched the funding 50-50, with a total budget of $5.28 million.

The Toogoolawah Community Gym Extension was supported with $250,000 in funding from the Queensland Government through the Minor Infrastructure and Inclusive Facilities Fund.

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said this $2.64 million commitment shows the Crisafulli Government’s strong support for regional communities.

“Queenslanders deserve access to quality local facilities and this investment in the Toogoolawah Pool is a great example of what can be achieved when all levels of government work together,” Mrs Frecklington said.

Cr Wendt thanked the community for their patience as Council delivered the upgrades.

“We know Somerset residents are looking for opportunities to cool off this summer,” Cr Wendt said.

“To thank the community for their patience, Council will be offering a one-off extension to opening hours during January 2026.”

The pool will be open from 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday between 2 January and 30 January 2026, an additional 100 hours of operation.

The Toogoolawah Swimming Pool is located on Factory Road, Toogoolawah.
