Planning Scheme Amendments

The Somerset Region Planning Scheme is amended periodically to ensure that it responds to changes in the community, updated information and to align with Queensland Government requirements. Council amends the planning scheme following the processes provided in the Planning Act 2016 and the Minister's Guidelines and Rules.

The following amendments are currently in progress:

Interim LGIP Amendment

The Somerset Region Planning Scheme includes a Local Government Infrastructure Plan (LGIP). The LGIP identifies the proposed trunk infrastructure needed to service existing and projected growth across the region. The LGIP ensures trunk infrastructure is delivered in a coordinated, efficient and financially viable manner.

The Interim Amendment to the LGIP proposes to review the infrastructure included in the plan.

Adopted Amendments

The following amendments have been completed, and form part of the Somerset Region Planning Scheme:

Major Amendment 2 (commenced 2026)

The purpose of Major Amendment 2 is to update a range of policy matters and provisions throughout the planning scheme, including for new homes, residential subdivisions, short-stay accommodation and home-based businesses, as well as updating the planning scheme to comply with Queensland Government policy and mapping updates.

The Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Minister for Industrial Relations provided approval for Council to proceed to adopt Major Amendment 2 on 28 April 2026.

Council decided to adopt the amendment package at its Ordinary Meeting on 20 May 2026. This amendment package commenced on 4 June 2026, as the Somerset Region Planning Scheme (Version 5.0).

Minor and Administrative Amendment - Planning Scheme Version 4.2 (commenced 2021)

Administrative amendment to resolve errors in the printing, formatting, cross-referencing, and electronic navigation of the planning scheme document and mapping.

This amendment package commenced on 17 December 2021, as the Somerset Region Planning Scheme (Version 4.2).

Minor and Administrative Amendment - Planning Scheme Version 4.1 (commenced 2020)

Minor and Administrative amendment to improve clarity and fix administrative errors.

This amendment package commenced concurrently with Major Amendment 1 - Planning Scheme Version 4 on 2 November 2020, as part of the Somerset Region Planning Scheme (Version Four).

Major Amendment - Planning Scheme Version 4 (commenced 2020)

Council resolved to make a Major Amendment to the Somerset Region Planning Scheme on 22 August 2018. The purpose of the amendment is to support various improvements, policy adjustments, and correction of errors that are not minor in nature.

The amendment was open for public consultation from 17 July 2019 until 3 September 2019 with three submissions received. The Consultation Report can be found at the following link:

On 14 October 2020, Council resolved, at its Ordinary Meeting, to adopt the Major Amendment to the Somerset Region Planning Scheme. 

This amendment package commenced concurrently with Minor and Administrative Amendment - Planning Scheme Version 4.1 on 2 November 2020, as part of the Somerset Region Planning Scheme (Version Four).

Local Government Infrastructure Plan and PSP 4 Design Standards Amendment (commenced 2018)

Major amendment to introduce the Local Government Infrastructure Plan and Planning Scheme Policy 4 – Design Standards.

This amendment package commenced on 27 April 2018, as the Somerset Region Planning Scheme (Version Three).

Alignment Amendment (commenced 2017)

Alignment amendment for the introduction of the Planning Act 2016.

This amendment package commenced on 3 July 2017, as the Somerset Region Planning Scheme (Version Two).
