CONSTRUCTION for the Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre upgrade will start in March 2026.

The works will increase the facilities capacity, including delivery of an expanded 24-hour gym area and gymnastics area, refurbishments, new car parking and more.

To facilitate the upgrade, the facility will close on Friday 27 February with a temporary gym venue to open at the Kilcoy Showgrounds in March.

Somerset Regional Council Mayor Jason Wendt said the Kilcoy Indoor Sports Redevelopment would align the facility with the needs of a modern community.

“This upgrade will service current and future sport and recreation demand, make the most of the facility’s potential and maximise its long-term sustainability,” Cr Wendt said.

“A key part of this project is creating a secure 24-hour access gym, allowing residents to access the facility outside of opening hours, in-line with modern gyms.

“The Stage One works also include refurbishments to the facility, expanding the gym and gymnastics areas, improving ventilation and air conditioning, updating amenities and construction of new car parking.

“Council’s contractors will start works in March with completion expected for September 2026, weather permitting.”

The Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre will close for construction from March 2026, with a temporary venue to be established at the Kilcoy Showgrounds Trackside Pavilion.

Cr Wendt said Council would appreciate the community’s patience during project delivery.

“We’re working closely with the Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre facility manager, Somerset Health and Fitness, to continue providing a fitness facility for the district,” Cr Wendt said.

“We will open a temporary venue on Monday, 9 March at the Kilcoy Showgrounds Trackside Pavilion on 26 Showgrounds Road, Woolmar, just a six-minute drive from the Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre.

“The temporary venue will have strength machines, free weights and cardio equipment, and has full disabled access with a ramp and bathroom.”

The Kilcoy Showgrounds venue will be open at the following times:

  • Monday to Friday mornings: 6am to 10am
  • Monday to Thursday afternoons: 3.30pm to 6.30pm
  • Saturdays: 8am to 11am

This project is jointly funded by the Somerset Regional Council and the Queensland Government.
