Get the kids out of the house with Somerset Regional Council’s spring School Holiday Program.
THERE’S no shortage of fun these spring school holidays in Somerset!
Somerset Regional Council’s School Holiday Program can now be accessed on Council’s new website and the Somerset On The Go app.
Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt said the program was jam-packed with free activities for all ages and all interests.
“Get the kids out of the house these holidays with our Sports and Movie Nights, the Teddy Bears’ Picnic, Comics Workshop and our suite of library activities over two weeks,” Cr Wendt said.
“We’re kicking off the spring school holidays with laser tag, gymnastics, a sausage sizzle and The Minecraft Movie on the big screen.
“The Sport and Movie Nights are being held at the Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre on Monday, 22 September and at the Fernvale Indoor Sports Centre on Tuesday, 23 September.
“We’ll have free indoor laser tag and gymnastics from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, followed by the sausage sizzle and The Minecraft Movie starting 6pm.”
On Thursday, 25 September, bring your favourite teddy bear along for the Teddy Bears’ Picnic from 9am to 12pm at the Somerset Civic Centre.
“This is always such a fun event for our young families, with face painting, a children’s disco, llamas, information stalls and a free sausage sizzle,” Cr Wendt said.
“The highlight is of course the teddy bear parade, with prizes for the best dressed and most loved bear.”
This event is proudly sponsored by the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety.
“For all the aspiring comic artists in Somerset we have a free, special workshop being held at the Somerset Civic Centre on Friday, 3 October from 10am to 11.30am,” Cr Wendt said.
“We’re ecstatic to have Dr Paul Mason from the Queensland Writers Centre visiting Esk to share the secret art of comic storytelling in his Comics Workshop.
“Learn how to write snappy dialogues, plan panels and create scripts to bring your characters and stories to life.”
This event is intended for children aged 10 to 15.
Cr Wendt said there was even more on offer at Somerset Libraries throughout the school holidays, with dates, times and locations available on Council’s website.
“We have our Jurassic Explorers event, where our libraries will transform into a prehistoric playground with fossil making and dino sensory stations,” Cr Wendt said.
“Come make your own rice-filled stress balls using colourful balloons, rice and a dash of imagination, and bring your ideas to life with Lego at our stop-motion animation movie workshops.
“If you still want some Minecraft action we’ll be crafting iconic Minecraft items like swords, blocks and characters out of paper.”
Bookings are essential for the Comics Workshop and all Somerset Libraries activities.
