Frequently Asked Questions
I don't know or can't remember my Library card number. Can you look it up for me?
Your Library card number can be found on the back of your Library card and will begin with 'M000'. If you do not have access to your Library card contact us with your full name, street address and date of birth so we can verify your identity and provide your Library card number.
What should I do if I lost my Library card?
If you have lost your Library card, pop into your local branch and we will replace it for you, free of charge.
What should I do if I forgot my PIN?
You can reset your PIN using our online catalogue. Alternatively contact us with your full name, street address and date of birth so we can verify your identity and reset your PIN.
Why can't I access online resources with my Library card number?
If you are unable to login to our online resources using your Library card number, it may be that you are entering the incorrect PIN number or that your membership needs to be renewed. Pop in to your local branch or phone (07) 5424 4000 and our staff can update your details on the system.
I returned a book or other item but it's still showing up on my account. What do I do?
Please contact us and provide your library card number, the title you returned, the branch where you returned the item, and the date you returned it. We will try to locate the item on our shelves. You will not accrue any fees or charges whilst we try to locate the item.
Can I return my loans at another location?
You can return your Somerset Libraries loans, including Interlibrary Loans at any of our four branches; Esk, Lowood, Kilcoy or Toogoolawah. All of our branches also have 24/7 returns chutes to allow you to return items (with the exception of sporting kits and Curiosity Kits) when it is most convenient to you.
I would like to volunteer at Somerset Libraries. How do I do this?
Thank you for showing interest in volunteering at Somerset Libraries. As a volunteer you may be required to shelve items, assist with children's activities and assist with event preparation. We would also be interested to hear from you if you are a crafter and are willing to run craft sessions. To be considered for volunteer shifts please fill out a volunteer application package(PDF, 679KB). Please note, submitting a package is not a guarantee you will receive a shift.
I would like an item that Somerset Libraries does not have in its collection. Can I do this?
You are able to place a suggestion for purchase on our online catalogue for any item published in the last two years and we will consider the item for our collection. For books older than this, you can place an interlibrary loan request. For more information on these services please visit the 'Reservations and Requests' page.
I need to use a computer. Can I do this at the Library?
Yes, all of our branches have computers that you can use for an hour each day, free of charge. To avoid disappointment, we recommend you phone (07) 5424 4000 to pre-book your session. We ask that you bring headphones if you need to use sound.
We also offer printing, photocopying, scanning and laminating services. For more information including prices, check out our 'Plan a Visit' page. Please note, our libraries do not have faxing facilities.
I have a Library card from the State Library of Queensland/an adjoining council. Can I use it at Somerset Libraries?
You will need a Somerset Libraries card to use our services. The good news is that joining with us is free and is open to anyone residing in Australia. For more information visit the 'Get Started' page.
