Celebrate and connect in Somerset for Queensland Seniors Month

Connect with Somerset seniors at two free Queensland Seniors Month events this October in Lowood and Esk.

SOMERSET seniors are invited to connect, learn and celebrate during Queensland Seniors Month with two free community events being held in Lowood and Esk this October.

Somerset Regional Council Mayor Jason Wendt said the events were opportunities for seniors to come together and access useful resources.

"Queensland Seniors Month is all about helping older people stay connected to their communities and the important people in their lives," Cr Wendt said.

"It is also about ensuring seniors feel supported when they need it and celebrated as valued members of our community.

"Council is pleased to offer two free events that provide opportunities for our seniors to access useful information, connect with support services and enjoy time with friends and neighbours."

A Seniors Information Expo will be held at the Lowood and District Memorial Bowls Club on 157 Main Street, from 9.30am to 11.30am on Friday 9 October.

On top of a light morning tea, the expo will feature a range of service providers, with information available on financial, legal and health services, community transport, carer support and support-at-home services.

The Seniors Information Expo is organised by Somerset Regional Council and proudly funded through Queensland Government’s Neighbourhood Centre Initiative.

Later in the month, Council will host the popular Queensland Seniors Month Lunch at the Somerset Civic Centre, 35 Esk Hampton Road, Esk.

The free lunch, held from 11.15am to 2pm on Friday 23 October, includes entertainment with Brisbane-based mentalist and hypnotist Dr Ace.
