Council continues Cadaghi Tree Replacement Program at Kilcoy
Somerset Regional Council will continue the removal of invasive cadaghi trees from Yowie Park, Kilcoy, in April 2027.
Council began removing the cadaghi trees (Corymbia torelliana) in October 2024 because they are classified as an environmental weed in south-east Queensland. The species can damage infrastructure, compete with native vegetation and produce a sticky resin.
Seven cadaghi trees will be removed, with replacement trees to be planted throughout the park shortly afterwards.
Somerset Deputy Mayor Helen Brieschke said the trees, despite being well established, had created ongoing issues at the popular park.
“It's well known these trees create a significant amount of black soot on footpaths, children's play equipment and picnic seating,” Cr Brieschke said.
“Council has deliberately scheduled the removal works after summer to avoid undertaking the project during the hottest months of the year.
“While the trees will be removed, visitors will continue to have access to a number of shade options throughout the park.”
Council meeting coming to Glamorgan Vale
Somerset Regional Council will host its next Council Community Meeting in Glamorgan Vale on Wednesday, 28 October.
Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt encouraged community members in Glamorgan Vale and surrounding areas to make the most of the meeting.
“We had great attendance and positive feedback from previous community meetings and we hope to see this continue,” Cr Wendt said.
“This is a great opportunity to meet Councillors and senior management, to ask questions during a meet and greet session and learn first-hand about Council’s decision-making process.
“Somerset is a vast and decentralised region, and our Council has a duty to represent and deliver services for everyone, no matter where they live.”
The meeting will be held at 11am on 28 October at the Glamorgan Vale Community Hall at 708 Glamorgan Vale Road, Glamorgan Vale.

Federal Member for Blair visits Esk to talk about Somerset priorities
Somerset Regional Council welcomed Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann MP to Council Chambers in Esk on Wednesday, 23 September, to discuss key issues and opportunities for the region.
Mayor Jason Wendt thanked Mr Neumann for meeting with Council and hearing firsthand about Somerset's priorities.
Discussions focused on disaster recovery funding arrangements, with Council advocating for any future funding framework to ensure local governments are not left worse off.
Other key topics included the condition of the Brisbane Valley Highway, future opportunities through the Federal Government's Thriving Suburbs Program, the Lockyer Valley and Somerset Water Security Scheme, and the National Fire Ant Eradication Program.
Mayor Jason Wendt said Council valued the opportunity to work closely with all levels of government to deliver outcomes for Somerset communities.
Shayne Neumann MP said it had been his privilege to represent the people of Blair since 2010 and he remained committed to supporting the region and advocating for local priorities in Canberra.
Five Excellence Bursaries awarded
Somerset Regional Council has awarded Excellence Bursaries to five residents, representing Somerset at state and regional levels.
Three bowlers competed with Queensland Indoor Bowling Association teams attending the Australian Indoor Bias Bowls Championships at Stanhope Gardens Leisure Centre in Blacktown, New South Wales over 24-29 August.
Mason and Nikita Brown were selected for the Junior Boys and Junior Girls teams, respectively, and Anita Brown was selected for the Second Ladies Triples team.
Jesse Heck has been selected for the Queensland Christian Soccer Association’s Senior Men’s team attending the Christian Football Federation Australia National Titles at Casey Fields in Cranbourne East, Victoria over 28-30 September.
Dakota Glass has been selected for the West Moreton Zone 3 team attending the Pony Club Queensland State Championships at Chinchilla Pony Club over 29-30 September.
The athletes were eligible for $500 in support for competing at state levels and $250 in support for competing at regional levels.

Somerset Regional Council Meetings
Somerset Regional Council will hold its next Ordinary Council Meeting at 9am on Wednesday, 14 October 2026 in the Simeon Lord Room at Esk Library.
The community is asked to contact Council and provide 24 hours’ notice if they plan to attend council meetings.
