Spring school holidays bring science, music and sport to Somerset

	Southern Cross Soloists will present ‘Ellis and the Night Orchestra’ at Kilcoy, Esk and Lowood on Wednesday, 30 September.

THE SPRING school holidays are jam-packed with family activities across Somerset, headlined by Kids Quest at the Somerset Civic Centre in Esk on Thursday, 24 September from 9am-12pm.

Somerset Regional Council’s free event will be filled with activities about science, nature and the human body.

Kids Quest will feature stage shows including ‘Water Ranger verses Walter’ by Urban Utilities, a breakdancing performance with Elements Collective, ‘Protectors of the Planet’ with Go Seek! and ‘Seriously Fun Science’ by Street Science.

Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt said Kids Quest would spark curiosity in young people across many interesting topics.

“This event gives children aged three to 11 the chance to have fun while learning about the world around them,” Cr Wendt said.

“This is the perfect place for kids to ask questions, find new interests and get hands-on with a range of activities.”

Council has partnered with Esk and Toogoolawah Tennis Clubs to deliver a free Holiday Tennis Clinic for ages 14 and under on Monday and Tuesday, 21-22 September.

“This is a great opportunity for young families to try out tennis in a relaxed environment, with qualified coach Ian Myles,” Cr Wendt said.

“Both days include morning sessions from 8am to 10am at Toogoolawah Tennis Club and afternoon sessions from 2pm to 4pm at Esk Tennis Club.“

Sessions will include a free morning and afternoon tea, supplied by Council.

Esk Tennis Club is located at 35 Esk Hampton Road and Toogoolawah Tennis Club is located in McConnel Park on Cressbrook Street.

Cr Wendt said the fun continued Wednesday, 30 September, with Southern Cross Soloists bringing ‘Ellis and the Night Orchestra’ to Kilcoy, Esk and Lowood.

“This mini opera is designed especially for children aged 0-8, combining live music, storytelling and imagination in an intimate and engaging theatre experience,” Cr Wendt said.

“The show follows Ellis as he transforms mysterious nighttime sounds into a magical musical adventure.”

Catch ‘Ellis and the Night Orchestra’ at Kilcoy Memorial Hall on 18 Kennedy Street from 9.30am-10.30am, the Somerset Civic Centre on 35 Esk Hampton Road, Esk from 11.30am-12.30pm, and Lowood CWA Hall on 106 Main Street from 2.30pm-3.30pm.

Somerset Libraries will also host drop-in craft activities at all libraries from 10am-4pm over the holidays.

Join your local library and imagine, create and explore with CD mosaic art, recycled marble mazes, pipe cleaner creations and agamograph art between 21 September and 3 October.
