It’s not too late to register for the 22nd annual Somerset Rail Trail Classic, held Sunday morning, 13 July.

ON SUNDAY morning, 13 July, a swarm of runners and riders will hit the pavement on Australia’s longest rail trail for the 22nd annual Somerset Rail Trail Classic (SRTC).

The 2025 SRTC has four challenge options with a 3km or 8km walk or run, and 20km and 44km bike rides.

Somerset Regional Council’s event showcases the best of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail with all courses crossing the finish line at the Fernvale Sports Park, where the SRTC festivities continue with stallholders, a rock climbing wall, food and other entertainment.

In 2025, funds raised by the SRTC will support Lowood Recreational Complex sporting groups the Lowood Stags Junior Rugby League Football Club and the Brisbane Valley Soccer Club.

Somerset Councillor Brett Freese said the Somerset Rail Trail Classic was all about promoting healthy lifestyles in the region.

“If you haven’t already registered, there’s still time to put your name down,” Cr Freese said.

“By participating you’re not only getting some exercise and seeing the sights on the BVRT, you’re supporting vital Somerset community groups which help make our region a great place to live.”

To support participants, Somerset Regional Council has organised bus services to and from the start and finish of the 8km run, and a stop at the 3km run start in Vernor.

There will also be post-event shuttle buses with bike trailers from Fernvale Sports Park to Memorial Park in Coominya for the 20km ride, and pre-event shuttles and trailers from Fernvale Visitor Information Centre to Pipeliner Park in Esk for the 44km ride.

More details will be supplied to participants and can also be found on the SRTC website.

Road users are advised the intersection of Prospect Street, Glamorgan Vale Road and Forest Hill Fernvale Road in Lowood will be closed between 8am and 9.30am to facilitate the event.

Cr Freese thanked the SRTC’s Major Sponsor, A&M Civil Contracting Pty Ltd.

“Their ongoing support for the Somerset Rail Trail Classic has allowed us to deliver a bigger and better event every year,” Cr Freese said.

“We look forward to seeing everyone on the rail trail, bright and early Sunday morning, 13 July.”
