Somerset Regional Council has a suite of activities booked in for its Autumn School Holiday Program, including its popular Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in Clock Park, Lowood on Tuesday, 14 April.

SOMERSET families have a suite of fun activities to choose from these Autumn school holidays.

Somerset Regional Council’s Autumn School Holiday Program kicks off with the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Clock Park, Lowood from 9am to 12pm on Tuesday, 14 April.

Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt said the free, family-friendly event promised a fun morning for all.

“There will be plenty of games and activities to keep the kids entertained, including a children’s disco, face painting and Ottaba Llamas, as well as information stalls tailored to young families,” Cr Wendt said.

“There’s also a free sausage sizzle and prizes will be awarded to children for the best hat and most creative costume – we can’t wait to see what the community comes up with this year.”

The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party is proudly sponsored by the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety.

The fun continues on Thursday, 16 April with a free Youth Week Laser Tag event at the Fernvale Indoor Sports Centre from 4pm.

Cr Wendt said Council was proud to join forces with PCYC Fernvale and Blue Lights Disco Somerset to deliver the Youth Week event.

“We’ll have two laser tag arenas running with inflatable barriers set up in the sports centre, plus gymnastics and more games and prizes on offer,” Cr Wendt said.

The event includes a free sausage sizzle from 5.30pm.

Closed in shoes are required, children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the event.

To wrap up the holidays, The Condensery – Somerset Regional Art Gallery will host a free diorama-building workshop with visiting artist Anna Gonzalez.

Cr Wendt said the ‘Build A Tiny World’ workshop was an opportunity for young creatives to let their imagination run wild.

“During this playful, hands-on workshop, young artists will explore the exhibition, sketch ideas inspired by memories and design their own miniature world using collage and mixed media techniques,” Cr Wendt said.

The workshop is designed for children aged 8 to 14 years, and all children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Cr Wendt said young families could also visit Somerset Libraries across the region for more fun over the school holidays.

“Pop into the library for fun, hands‑on drop‑in activities for all ages, all inspired by recycling and upcycling,” Cr Wendt said.
