THE SOMERSET community is invited to help shape Somerset Regional Council’s vision, mission and priorities over the next five years.

Council released its Draft Corporate Plan 2026-2031 for public consultation on Monday, 2 March, with submissions closing 5pm Monday, 23 March.

The Corporate Plan is Council’s main strategic document and sets out Council’s vision for the region and how it plans to get there.

Somerset Mayor Jason Wendt said the document was key to shaping Council’s direction and how it responds to opportunities ahead.

“The next five years will be crucial for Somerset with our growing population, major capital projects underway and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games just around the corner,” Cr Wendt said.

“We need to be ready for the challenges and opportunities which will shape the region over this period.

“The Corporate Plan sets the tone for Council’s strategic direction, informs our decision-making process and budget considerations.

“This is an important document, and we want to get it right. To do this we need your support, we need to hear your voice, and we want to see your passion for Somerset.

“We’re working with you and for you to deliver Somerset’s future.”

Council Chief Executive Officer Andrew Johnson said every decision Council makes over the next five years will tie back to the new core vision and mission statement.

“Our Council is putting its best foot forward with our new vision and mission, and we hope the community can support our plans for Somerset,” Mr Johnson said.

The proposed new vision is: ‘Thriving communities – country lifestyle.’

The proposed mission statement is: ‘Delivering great outcomes and services for our communities.’

“The new direction articulates our progressive ideas for the region, while maintaining the country lifestyle valued by our communities.” Mr Johnson said.

“The vision and mission will guide the outcomes we want to achieve for our communities, our environment, our economy, our infrastructure and our organisation.

“The plan has been drafted in consultation with various stakeholder groups.”

Cr Wendt encouraged everyone to have their say on Council’s strategic framework.

“The Draft Corporate Plan is available on our website alongside a short survey, where you will be able to share your thoughts on Somerset’s future,” Cr Wendt said.

“A printed survey will also be available at Council’s Customer Service Centres and libraries.

“Following consultation, Council will review feedback and finalise the Corporate Plan, which will be adopted by June.”
