Expression of Interest - Audit Committee Independent Members

Expressions of Interest are invited from individuals interested in joining Somerset Regional Council’s Audit Committee.

The Committee

The Audit Committee has four members in total – two Councillors and two independent members, with one independent member attending each alternate Committee meeting. The independent member in attendance will act as the Chairperson of the Committee.

As an Independent Member of the Committee, you will contribute your specialist skills and knowledge to matters which assist Council in the oversight of internal and external audit functions, financial reporting, and oversight of internal control systems.

Meetings

Meetings are held at least four times per year, with a dedicated meeting for consideration of the financial statements. Meetings are generally held at the Council Administration Office at 2 Redbank Street, Esk. Each independent member will need to attend at least two (2) meetings each year.

Total remuneration for this position $1,000 per meeting inclusive of preparation, travel time and costs, meeting attendance and superannuation (as applicable).

Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will demonstrate competencies which contribute to the operations of the Committee, including but not limited to:

  • Degree qualified Accountant;
  • Demonstrated and relevant experience in financial management and governance; and
  • Understanding of the Queensland local government legislative framework with particular reference to financial reporting requirements.

Appointments

Appointments to the Committee will be made by a resolution of Council following the selection process and a recommendation from the Chief Executive Officer. Appointments will be for an initial term of three (3) years.
