A number of regular Active and Healthy programs are promoted or provided, as well as services and information resources to local sporting clubs to assist them with developing and improving their services.

Somerset Resource Centre

Somerset Regional Council resourcesA significant collection of sport, health and fitness resources and equipment is available at Somerset libraries for lending to community members. This service operates in conjunction with Council's existing library service in that any library member must comply with the conditions of lending.

Parks and Playgrounds

The Somerset region has a large provision of parks and recreation areas for use by the public. Play in the playground, kick a footy around, go skateboarding, or shoot some hoops; the options are there for your choosing.See Council Parks to find out where to play.

 

Walking, Cycling and Horse Riding

There are many trails in the Somerset region where you can get outside and enjoy the great outdoors.

The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, Wivenhoe Hill Trails, Conondale Range Great Walk and Bicentennial National Trail are all found within the Somerset region and offer walking, biking, horse riding and trail running.

Water Sports and Activities

The lakes, creeks and rivers in the Somerset provide some fantastic places to enjoy the water.

Somerset Dam, Wivenhoe Dam and Atkinson Dam all provide multiple opportunities to take part in some aquatic fun. This includes boating, swimming, fishing, kayaking and sailing or simply barbequing, camping, picnicking or walking near the water. Jet skiing and waterskiing are also permitted at Somerset Dam and Atkinson Dam. seqwater, one of Australia's largest water businesses, manages the major storages in the Somerset region of Wivenhoe Dam, Lake Somerset Dam and Atkinson Dam and provide the outdoor recreation activities at these dams.

The Somerset region also boasts several canoe launch points and canoe trails. Somerset Regional Council has compiled the Somerset Canoe Trail Map from local enthusiasts who regularly visit our region. The areas highlighted on the map can be readily accessed and offer year round canoeing opportunities. Other areas can be explored by more experienced enthusiasts as conditions permit.
